The significant snowfall of this past weekend has created challenges for mailboxes throughout the town and generated a significant number of repair requests. The Highway Department will be reviewing each request received in the coming days to determine if repair or compensation is available under the Town’s mailbox damage repair policy that was enacted through resolution of the Town Council. As noted in the policy linked below, repair or compensation is only permitted if the damage was caused by DIRECT CONTACT by a Town plow. Not covered under this policy are mailboxes that are damaged simply from the weight of snow pushed against them as mailbox posts must be strong enough to resist this force.
Highway Division forces are currently working to open up intersection sight lines around town due to the size of the snow piles, so we ask for your continued patience with mailbox repairs as we prioritize Highway Department efforts on safety related issues. Residents are reminded to please use the Citizen Request system to report problems with the snow removal efforts or to contact the Highway Garage at 860-652-7750.
