Talk It Out Campaign

'Talk It Out' Campaign

Research shows that parents/guardians play a key role in a child’s life when it comes to making important decisions, such as experimenting with drugs and alcohol. More than 80 percent of kids and teens 10 to 18 years old have expressed that their parents do influence their decision whether or not they will drink. GCAP developed the 'Talk It Out' Campaign because we believe that it's important to address substance use with our children early on, and to continue having these conversations. We also developed this campaign with the hope that more teens will take advantage of these resources and educate themselves on current trends and where to access help, should they have the need.

With all of the social media platforms now in place, misinformation can spread quickly. It is important for us to stay well informed and to be able to provide the facts to our children which will hopefully help them make the best decisions possible. If a friend offers a vape in middle school- how would they respond? If a doctor has prescribed a medication to a friend of theirs - is that safe for them to take just because it has been prescribed by a doctor? If they attend at a high school party where there is drinking - how would they respond?

Questions such as the ones above do come up quite often. We encourage parents/guardians to visit the websites that we have provided as well as looking into additional resources that may be of interest to you. We also encourage you to have these conversations with other parents/guardians who your children spend a lot of time with. If you find that your child might be struggling and needs help with their mental health or substance use please know that there are many resources available to you and your family. Treatment is available and it does work!

If you have any additional questions please reach out to the Glastonbury Substance Abuse Prevention & Clinical Specialist at 860-652-7531. All information will remain confidential.
